Waive Property Taxes on Fire Victims

Survivors of the Woolsey, Palisades, and Eaton Fires are still paying property taxes on vacant, uninhabitable land, in some cases, for over six years. This petition demands that state and local officials waive property taxes for all verified fire victims until their homes are rebuilt and legally habitable.

Summary:
This petition calls on California state and local governments to immediately waive or significantly reduce property taxes for victims of the 2018 Woolsey Fire and the 2025 Palisades and Eaton Fires. Many survivors are being taxed as if they still live in homes that burned down, despite delays, blocked permits, and failures by cities and counties to provide basic services or rebuild support. Until survivors can return to safe, completed homes, they should not be forced to carry the financial burden of full property taxes on uninhabitable lots.
