Fire Chief Anthony Marrone – Radio

8:00 AM – Fire Chief Anthony Marrone, Los Angeles Fire Department, announced on KNX that “dozens” of homes were lost.

Southern California Edison – Power Shut Off

9:00 AM – SCE power shut off. 712,769 customers were notified. 363,196 customers were de-engergized.

City of Malibu – Announcement

12:00 PM – RED FLAG WARNING FOR MALIBU – widespread, extremely dangerous fire conditions across LA and Ventura Counties 4AM Tues, 1/7 – 6PM Thurs, 1/9 due to Santa Ana winds up to 50 – 80 mph. SCE has all of Malibu on its watch list for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) 1/7 – 1/8. Be prepared for potential fires, evacuations, power outages, and hazardous roads, beaches and ocean waters. The City is closely monitoring conditions, coordinating with LA County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, and will post emergency information as needed via alerts, the website, and social media as needed, and is ready to activate the Emergency Operations Center. Come to a complete stop at any malfunctioning traffic signal. Be extremely cautious with any potential source of fire ignition, such as using landscaping equipment. Any fire start could result in rapid fire growth and extreme fire behavior. Topanga Canyon will be closed Tues – Fri, with access for residents and local businesses only.

City of Malibu – Announcement

4:55 AM – NWS Says Chance of 90 MPH Winds In Mountains, SCE Warns Of Intentional Blackouts Tues and Wed. The power company warns it may cut the power to parts of Malibu starting as early as 9am Tuesday, as the NWS warns of wind gusts to 60-80 mph along the coast and 90 mph on the mountains.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass left Los Angeles Jan 4 and arrived in Ghana on Jan 5.
